Why Your Children May Trigger the Need for a Life Insurance Review

If you're one of the many young couples who took out life insurance while it was only the two of you, it's probably time for a review of your policy. New additions to your family can mean additional debt in your lives, which in turn means you may need to increase the amount of cover you have.

It's natural to want to provide financial security for your family and life insurance allows for this. Debts can slowly creep up on you as your family expands. It starts with a mortgage debt, to allow for a new home (with extra bedrooms!). It progresses further with a personal loan for a new car, as you can’t rely on public transport anymore, or just one car. Credit cards are added on, just for emergencies at the start. Future expenses are imagined, with you wanting to have enough money for family holidays and education costs.

You need to stop and consider the thought that, we, as Australians, don't like to think "What would happen to your family, if something happened to you?" The fact is, we tend to have the attitude that everything will be okay, or "It won’t happen to me". Unfortunately the  statistics prove otherwise. Every day people we know are falling ill or getting injured.

Consider this - if you were to pass away, how would you like to leave your family?

  1. With less than they had
  2. As much as they had
  3. More than they had

It's easy to guess you're answer here. Naturally you wish to leave your family with at least, as much as they had when you were alive.

Taking out insurance to, at the very least, cover your debts if you were to pass away is the first step you can take to protecting your family. Life insurance can give you peace of mind that your family will be able to go on with the life they know after you.

So if you family has expanded or you are planning on more children it might be time for a life insurance review.
