Frequently Asked Questions

I'm pregnant: what are my life insurance options?

Pregnancy is a completely natural and exciting part of life and as such, every life insurance company has coverage considerations for expectant mothers.

When applying for life insurance, you will be asked for details such as what trimester you are in and whether you’ve had any complications with previous pregnancies.

It is also normal for life insurance providers to enquire as to whether you have any history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and elevated glucose levels. Gestational diabetes (GD) can also be a consideration for life insurance underwriters, so be prepared to answer a few questions regarding any apparent symptoms or diagnosis of GD. The more information you can provide, the better.

You will most likely be able to obtain life insurance while pregnant, however it is normal for a waiting period of up to 6 weeks after delivery to apply before trauma and total and permanent disability (TPD) cover may be considered.
