Income Protection Insurance For Footballers
If you play football at an amateur level (Australian rules, soccer, rugby union, rugby league or touch football) in most cases you can be insured for income protection that covers you whilst participating in your chosen code. Professional footballers are generally not eligible for income protection insurance.
Some insurance companies take into consideration your occupation. If you primarily perform manual duties there is an increased risk that if you injure yourself playing football you will not be able to work and will need to claim. Therefore some companies may apply either a 25% loading, football exclusion, or extended 90 day waiting period for football injuries. If you work in an office environment or in a sedentary occupation it is less likely the insurance will be altered, as the risk of being unable to work as a result of a football injury is generally lower. There is at least one company that can offer income protection with no restrictions or loadings if you play amateur football, regardless of your occupation.
If being fully covered for football is of particular importance to you, your adviser can provide quotes to determine which product offers the most comprehensive cover and value for money by comparison.
